Chakras We have seven chakras. Each chakra is a place that energy can flow in to or out from. Each individual chakra pertains to a certain area of our lives. To be fully healthy and happy, all 7 must be open and in balance, for these are where the energy of life force flows into our bodies. From the top down, here are the Chakras: Crown Chakra This is normally associated with our spirituality, our life force. It rules over the spinal cord, brain stem, pain center and our nerves. Its color is white or purple. The stones associated with it are amethyst, apophyllite, chevron amethyst, clear calcite, danburite, diamond, euclase, iolite, clear quartz, herkimer diamond, moonstone, opal, rainbow moonstone, scapolite (purple), selenite, spodumene. |

 Danburite is associated with the crown chakra and also can enhance the functionality of all the chakras. Danburite amplifies the properties and effects of other stones. It will open and release energy blockages, assisting healing on all levels. Thus it is an excellent healing stone. Danburite is also helpful in strengthening clarity and perceptiveness. It also lessens issues of self-pride as well as diminishing blockages. |

Lapis Lazuli is associated with the Brow Chakra. This deep blue stone has a rich history. It was worn by people of Mesopotamia and Greece. It brings truthfulness and openness. It can help order ones life and quiet a chaotic mind. It can be used to contact guardian spirits. It is helpful for sinus ailments, headaches and pain relief. It strengthens the body and mind while bringing a connectedness with our spiritual evolution. |

From the top down again, we will now explore the throat chakra. This is located in our neck and throat region. Its name, Vishuddha, means pure. This chakra has to do with our will, and how honestly we express ourselves. The purpose of the chakra is to take responsibility for our own needs. When we do not speak out as we should, we can experience a lump in our throat. One of the challenges of this chakra is to speak as honestly as we can and seek only the truth. It governs our throat, thyroid, tongue and teeth. When it is out of balance we will have trouble expressing ourselves, and may experience negative self talk. When it is in balance we will have good listening skills and be more creative. |

Turquoise is a very protective and calming stone. It promotes spiritual attunement and enhances communications with the physical and the spiritual world. It is a strengthening stone. It can help to dissolve the old attitudes of self-sabotage. It unites the earth and the sky, bringing together male and female energies. It balances and aligns all of the chakras and attunes the physical level to the spiritual. It is a promoter of true self awareness; it assists in creative problem solving and calms us when speaking in public. |

We will now look at the second chakra, the Sacral Chakra, called Svadhisthana. This chakra deals with passion, sexuality, abundance, feelings and creativity. It is located in the lower back to the navel and the sexual organs. When in balance, we are not afraid of our sexuality. We can feel our power and we will have a joy for living and lots of healing energy. We are open to people and are not overemotional. We can honor our relationships and learn lessons of letting go, of not having to be in control. We accept change. When it is under active, you may experience weak or dissatisfactory sexual feelings. You may have a low sex drive and try to count it as unimportant. If it is overactive, you may have strong desires to control and feel very emotional, and have problems with feelings of guilt, issues with money or with laying blame. In the Tantric tradition it is believed that celibacy will allow this powerful sexual energy to flow to the brain and thus raise higher consciousness. People who see sex as dirty or bad may be experiencing difficulty with the sacral chakra. The areas of the body that are governed by the sacral chakra are the sexual organs, spleen, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and lower intestines. The color of this chakra is orange, and the stones associated with it are carnelian, sunstone, honey and orange calcite and moonstone. |

Aragonite is considered to be an ideal stone for those going through the turmoil of puberty as it contains the elements required to relieve stress, eliminate anger and hostility, and to enhance ones ability to be generous and sensitive. A greatly soothing stone, Aragonite assists the nervous system by clearing the mind, providing security while increasing patience under stressful circumstances. Aragonite promotes a positive effect on emotions, increases self-worth and self-confidence, creating a centered, happier and more peaceful self. In business, Aragonite is believed to provide a clear mind and provide energy and stamina that is needed to meet professional challenges. Thought to teach the art of deep thinking, Aragonite gives the ability to live everyday life with an open heart and mind. An earthly grounding stone, Aragonite shows one how to effectively give-and-take, by making one think before acting, and is believed to teach moderation in all things. Aragonite has also been used to help access past lives or explore childhood. Physically, Aragonite increases energy, and is strongly believed to increase the energy of prayers and magick charms. It is thought to be of benefit to chronic fatigue sufferers, and have a positive influence on the brain, nervous system, and heart. Aragonite is thought to help decrease hair loss and skin disorders, assist in strengthening the immune and digestive systems, strengthen and mend broken bones and teeth by improving calcium absorption, and provide relief from spinal pain.

Next we will look at the solar plexus chakra. It is the 3rd chakra, called Manipura in Sanskrit. When this chakra is in balance, we feel fulfilled emotionally. We feel in harmony with the universe around us. This chakra is where we feel our personal power. It is where we know where we fit in the universe and can feel that belonging. This chakra is the center of our emotional selves. It is the center for action and energy and personal power. We have a mental understanding of our emotional life, and we can accept our place in the flow of life. This is where we experience our gut instincts where we intuitively know something to do or not to do a thing. Our egos live in the solar plexus chakra, hence it is tied to our self esteem. When not in balance, we may feel fear of rejection or fear that our secrets will be found out. We may be overly sensitive to criticism. We may be unable to be alone and comfortable with just yourself. We may be closed to spiritual energies and intuition. This chakra is associated with the upper abdomen, the upper spine, liver, intestines and skin as a system. The color of this chakra is Yellow, and the crystals normally associated with it are amber, tigers eye, yellow topaz, aragonite, yellow calcite, sunstone and sulphur. |
